Off to Beautiful Formentera, Spain

It’s an easy trip to Formentera, but you can’t get there by plane as there is no airport. There is a helipad, but you need to book well in advance to be able to use it. The most conventional route is to take a ferry from one of the mainland Spanish ports (Barcelona, Denia, Alicante) or from one of the Balearic Island ports of Ibiza Town or Palma. You will arrive at the port of La Savina, and if you are coming from Ibiza the crossing will only take you around thirty minutes.
The length of time that you decide to stay on Formentera will dictate where you decide to go. For example, most day trippers just head up to the stunning white beaches of the northern peninsula known as Es Trucadors. If you need some help planning your trip then you can pop into the Tourist Information Office, which is just opposite the ferry. There is also another one that is in the village of Sant Francesc.
The incredible stretch of white sand beaches, islets, coves, and turquoise waters that make up Es Trucadors has views out to S’Espalmador and Es Vedra. And that is not the only natural beauty on display as this part of the island is a hot spot for naturism. To get to the beaches is just a 15 minute cycle from the port of La Savina. Then you can roam free.
Book early! There are so few houses on Formentera, and a limited number of hotels, that you need to plan your vacation carefully. From the desolate farmhouses of El Pilar de la Mola to the frenetic resort hotels of Es Pujols, this small island has a lot to offer the visitor. Your choice should be dictated by the type of vacation you want, but do bear in mind that the island is just 82 kilometers in circumference so wherever you end up is in striking distance of the other attractions.
Es Pujols is the island’s only real resort so this is a popular choice. It has a frenetic pace relative to the other parts of the island, and there is a throng of young Italians and Germans teeming the streets at all hours of day and night. A more sedate, and central location would be the village of Sant Francesc, which is the island’s capital.

All About Espalmador Formentera

When you decide to make your way to Espalmador from Formentera it is not advisable to cross the water separating the two islands. You will see some people making the passage when the water is shallow, but actually it is very dangerous as there is a strong current and more than one tourist has seem adventure turn into misadventure. You are much better off taking the ferry from La Savina, or even the boat that stops by the Es Trucadors beach at Illetes.
Ferries run from La Savina to Espalmador from 10:15 in the morning to 13:15, and then head back in the afternoon from 16:15 to 17:30. For many people it just isn’t enough time, and they take the trip on multiple days. For day tripper from Ibiza they just hang out on yachts just off the coast of Espalmador, and swim to shore if they are in need of some time on the beach.
The mud baths of Espalmador are renowned for their healing properties, although they are completely unproven from a scientific point of view. To get to the mud baths you just go to Platja de s’Alga and head north, and you soon come across four hectares of mud, glorious mud. There is no need to worry about getting dirty as it all comes off in the ocean.
This is something that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike and it is definitely worth heading up there.
One thing to note is that is a particularly dry year there may be a shortage of mud, so please respect the environment, and if it looks like there is a lack of mud then refrain from damaging what remains.

Nearby Port de La Savina

There is no airport on the the island of Formentera so most people arrive at Port de la Savina. The port grew from a natural harbor that was used to export Sabina pine, thus its name. These days it is not so much a commercial port as a tourist hub with a beautiful marina.
You can take the ferry from La Savina to many different locations, from the neighboring island of Espalmador all the way to the Denia. There are connections to the other Balearic islands, via Sant Antoni and Palma. In the winter months the ferries between Ibiza and Formentera are the most frequent.
La Savina is an excellent place to get everything you need for your vacation on Formentera. You can pop into the tourist office to get a map, and then head to the shops to rent a bike or car. Once you have done with all your shopping there are some nice tapas places overlooking the marina. La Savina is not somewhere that you will want to stay for a long time, but it’s a good place to start your holiday.
Just behind La Savina is the saltwater lagoon known as Estany des Peix. Its shallow warm waters are excellent for water sports. You don’t need to worry about big ferries getting in your way as only the narrowest boats fit into the channel that connects Estany des Peix to the sea. Estant Pudent and Es Trucadors are also close by La Savina.
The first destination for many people who arrive at La Savina is Es Pujols. This resort village has a great beach and warm shallow waters which are ideal for water sports. There is disabled access to the ocean and it is a very family friendly area. Whilst there are a lot of you tourists here it is not like the wild party atmosphere that you get in Ibiza.
In the evenings Es Pujols turns into a lively network of market stalls along the promenade of Avenida Miramar and into the high street of Passeig des Plameres. The locals, some of whom are aging hippies, sell a lot of hand made goods.

A Lesson in Life From A Fish

Sara Button has recently written a story, Black Bear, Loon & Walleye: A Fable from the Northwoods. As Directors of Swift Nature Camp an Environmental Summer Camp in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, this story holds a special place in our hearts. It is such a good story we put a copy in our camp library for all our staff to share with their children.
This is a story of three friends–Black Bear, Loon & Walleye, one furry, one feathered, one sporting fish scales–and each wishes for the gifts of another, not unlike many of us. Black Bear longs for shiny scales to look flashy and impress his friends; Loon wants to sport and enviable fur coat; and Walleye wants to fly. One day when their wishes magically come true, each realizes the faults : Bear’s scales can’t keep him warm, Loon can’t fly with fur weighing her down, and Walleye has bad eyesight and is no good at flying even with feathers.
Black Bear, Loon and Walleye take a wild adventure that teaches them lessons that are timeless universal truths. The friends learned a valuable lesson that day, to appreciate each others gifts, but most of all to value their own. Trying new things is important, because you might find something that you really enjoy. But if it doesn’t work out, you still get to know yourself better. So each characters learned that they each have special gifts and that they need to always appreciate the others gifts, while valuing their own.
All who read This is a story will remember the importance of trying new things, understanding our own true nature, and having faith that we are all perfectly designed to fulfill our own unique purposes in life. The bottom line, Know yourself well and Value your gifts!
At Summer Camp the opportunity arises daily to promote each child’s personal development by providing fun, friendship and leadership in a supportive and noncompetitive environment away from home. Camp provides children an opportunity to act on their own, be self-reliant and try things for themselves. Camp provides few long lasting consequences, so children know that if it doesn’t work out they can start over much like the stars of our book.
Ech night as our camp counselors read stories to the children a familiar call is heard in the background. As the loon calls it brings this story to life and makes it a special evening. A Black Bear, Loon & Walleye: A Fable from the Northwoods a story by Sara Button holds a special place in our hearts. As Directors of Swift Nature Camp an Overnight Summer Camp in the Northwoods of Wisconsin,our campers can see this story unfolding right in front of their eyes. It is so special we keep a copy in our camp library for all to read.

Kindle 2 VS. Sony: Which one Is Better?

The battle of the giants, Sony eBook Reader and Amazon Kindle is fierce. The Kindle 2 and the Sony Reader, both have the same size screen: 6 inches. Ive tried both and I have to say despite its odd shape the Kindle 2 came out well ahead after a while just in terms of how well it worked and some of the features.
You will probably learn very quickly that you get what you pay for in life and that is no different when it comes to Kindle copycats.The Sony Ebook Reader is quickly making some friends but it is only because people are not looking deep enough into the product. For starters, the most obvious difference between the Kindle 2 Ebook Reader and the Sony Ebook Reader is that the Sony version is cheaper.
Kindle 2 retails for $359.00 while the Sony Ebook Reader is $299.00. For those who consider themselves savvy shoppers, this may make a bell go off in their head. Those who really want to make sure that they are getting their monies worth should look further into the comparison though. You get what you pay for.
The Sony Ebook Reader has enough storage space to store 160 ebooks. This sounds great and all but the Kindle 2 can store over 1,500. This is an obvious difference between the two. Since the Sony Ebook Reader is not able to hold as many books, it is no wonder that it is maybe an inch or two smaller.
With the Kindle 2 getting a lot of press these days, people are starting to think about eBooks much more seriously. What it seems most people do not know is that the Kindle 2 is not the only portable ebooks reader available to the consumer. If you are buying a Kindle or Sony Reader, make sure the reader displays protected Mobipocket and Adobe PDF files.
The Kindle 2 includes that power adapter along with the USB cable, a quick start guide, and a rechargeable battery for the price of the unit. The Sony Ebook reader does not. They recommended that you buy the AC charger for an additional cost but all they include with their purchase price is a case to carry the reader in, a USB cable, and a quick start guide.
If you want to buy the AC adapter so that you can actually make use of your purchase then that will cost you another $29.99. So when it comes to purchasing an Ebook reader, wheather it is for yourself or for someone that you care about, you want to make sure that you are getting the most for your money.
These are not the times we should be casually spending our money with no regards to what we are actually getting. For something that will surely entertain and be worth the purchase, the Kindle 2 is the way to go.
