It is amazing to see that in this risqu world there are still movies being made that are for die hard romantics. Letters to Juliet is one such movie. It is a complete family movie, one where you can watch without the thought of embarrassing yourself in front of your family. You can imagine this from the fact that there is not a single cuss word throughout the length of the movie.

Contrary to claims that movies based on Romeo and Juliet or true loves are art movies that are dreary to watch, Letters to Juliet entertains. Once you start watching the film you start rooting for the lead characters. Though you know the ending, but still you want them to reach there, that is how Letters to Juliet warms your heart. The only flaw in the script is the fact that people write to Juliet for love advice. And I used to think that her story is the one that teaches you the dangers of love life.

If you have gotten around that story, the rest of the movie is a lovely breeze. It’s about young Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) who lives with her fianc Victor (Gael Garcia Bernal) in New York, while she is a fact checker for The New Yorker. He is chef who is going to open a new Italian restaurant. To celebrate the completion of the construction of the restaurant the couple takes a vacation as their pre honeymoon to Italy.

In Italy while Victor is busy selecting the dcor, cuisine and wines for the restaurant. Sophie starts getting bored to death. As a way to kill time she decides to go on a sightseeing trip so as to know the beautiful locales in Italy. During her trip she sees an old house where people are posting letters which are all titled “To Juliet”. Seeing this she decides to stay to check what happens of the letters. In the end she meets three others girls who call themselves as Juliet’s assistants and they reply to all the letters.

Sophie joins them and one day she finds a very old letter in that disheveled house dated back in 1958, it tells the story of Claire who had lost her only love, an Italian guy because she couldn’t run away with her. She replies to that letter which leads to the chain of events and suddenly she finds herself to be a on a road trip with Claire and her grandson Charlie (Christopher Egan) to find the long lost love of Claire.

All the young actors present in the movie do not disappoint and acting is top notch in the movie. The only flaw is the lack of chemistry between the lead actors of the movie. While Amanda and Christopher are brilliant in their individual scenes but when together the magic seems to be missing this is such a bummer because this movie could have a classic.

The story is old but it does have its moments which make it very interesting to watch. Letters to Juliet is one movie where the true love beats all odds and there is no place for the cynics to survive.
