Many a times the makers of a film be it comedy or an action movie make the film to reach out to a wide audience but sometimes the target is a specific group of people in the audience as well. There have been many Hollywood movies based on these two genres that have been successful in the past while there have been others as well which have totally flopped. Action comedies provide entertainment to a larger group though this does not mean that the movie will necessarily be a success since there are other ingredients for a successful movie.

Directed by Jorma Taccone and written by Jorma Taccone, Will Forte and John Solomon the movie Macgruber is an American action comedy film which seemed like a hit before it was released. The movie is based on the NBC television series Saturday Night Live sketch Macgruber and it released on May 21, 2010. The movie has been edited by Jamie Gross while Rogue pictures have done the distribution of the film. It should be noted that the TV series was also created by Jorma Taccone.

Macgruber is a brave heart having a number of medals under his name and has also supported a number of ranks. Ever since his fiance was killed 10 years ago the special operator has fought crime with his bare hands and has lived his life that way. A nuclear warhead has been stolen by Dieter Von Cunth, his enemy and now he is required by his country. He assembles a team of Lt. Dixon Piper and Vicki St. Elmo who are experts in their fields and through his unorthodox methods he tries to solve the serious situation.

The title role of Macgruber has been played by Will Forte while his sworn enemy Dieter Von Cunth has been played by Val Kilmer. The team of Macgruber has Ryan Phillippe playing the role of Lt. Dixon Piper and Kristen Wiig playing the role of Vicki St. Elmo. The movie also has Power Boothe and Maya Rudolph in significant roles while various WWE wrestlers like Kane, Mark Henry, The Big Show, The Great Khali, M.V.P and Chris Jericho have also played small cameos.

Some scenes of the movie make you feel that too much of an effort has been put in to get the humor and at these places the movie lacks. Certain nude scenes in the movie instead of making you laugh, make you feel embarrassed. The raw treatment which has been given to the script without following any previously traveled paths gets the fun going despite the above factors.

The movie has some nudity scenes and some of them instead of making you laugh make you feel embarrassed. In certain scenes one feels that an over attempt has been done to get the humor in and the movie has lacked at those places. The one question that has and will keep burning in our heart is why do all these relationships are so hard. One of the greatest mysteries of this world in the concept of love, nobody knows the work our mind plays, is it some chemical reaction or after all it’s the heart that’s the culprit. Nobody really knows and we can make a safe bet that will really be able to know. As a result we have these numerous flicks who try to decipher the mystery that stays within our heart. Perfect Combination is no exception. It has a lot of heart with a touchy and happy ending.

Perfect Combination and so many others all belong to the genre known as romantic Dramedy. This genre has provided people with numerous light hearted moments and has helped people crawl through many lazy afternoons. The basic essence of Perfect Combination is that there is a guy looking for a girl of his dreams. But he is oblivious to the truth that lies in front of him. Sounds like many different other movies? Nobody said that this is an original concept but when we come to think to it, this story is the soul of Romcom hence you really can’t separate them!

The story opens with Rick (Christian Keyes) who has a nice and content life and is just short of his 30th birthday. When he gets a big promotion he realizes that in this whole bad world there isn’t a special woman in his life with whom he can share his joys and sorrows.

To meet his dream girl he registers himself on a dating service known as Perfect Combination. His argument of not joining an internet service is that he is terrified of his personal data being leaked on the web sphere. This result in him being the laughing stocks of his friends while his escapades with different dates doesn’t work out and that often results in hilarious outcomes.

On the top if it he has three best friends who although are very friendly and are in the same problem as he is i.e. trying to find the perfect girl but they never miss a opportunity to take a jibe at him. It’s the only high point of the movie as their acting is quite natural and gives a friendly and heartwarming feel to the viewer.

This film no doubt tries its best to entertain and often succeeds in doing do but its only weakness is that the dating concept shown can be a real pain to watch. Just for an example the scenes where Rick had to meet numerous dates before getting to his perfect girl, tries to be funny but fails miserably.

Despite all this Perfect Combination is hard to ignore. Although the movie does not show anything new and is also low of laughter moments but the characters and actors there salvage the situation with some natural A listed acting and a lot of heartfelt moments. In the end the movie leaves a lot desired. It could have been a better package with a slightly superior script.

The New Daughter is a complete thriller and horror movie. Luis Bredjo directed the movie and it took much effort from him to complete the movie successfully. Though there are some negative aspects concerned about the movie, still the movie manages to entertain its audience. John Travis wrote the screenplay for the movie. The movie released on December 18, 2009 and turned out to be a good movie liked by most people. The story reveals about a single father who does not know what biological changes takes place inside his daughter’s body. He finds it very difficult to manage his kids as a single father and the activities of his daughter frighten his son. They live in a place where there was an Indian burial mound already located. The unexpected sounds from the roof and strange things happening inside their home make them worried a lot.

Summary of the movie:

A writer John James lives with his family happily without any problem. However, due to unexpected problems, he had to divorce his wife. He then starts his life as a single father to his two middle school children Louisa and Sam. Sam is the youngest and Louisa is going to enter her puberty stage. After sometime, John plans to go and stay in South Carolina. They find a home there along the dirt road, where an Indian burial mound was already situated. Without knowing the consequence of the burial mound, they start living there. Sooner, her daughter Louisa enters her puberty and starts changing herself completely. She spends most of her time near the burial mound and starts behaving strange. John completely astonished with her behavior and Sam was frightened after seeing her behavior.

John was completely confused and does not know what should be done. He starts finding a solution for his problematic daughter and searches for the previous owners of the place in order to find any clues for solution. He gets some clues from the previous owners and tries to solve the mystery behind his daughter’s behavior. What happens between John and his daughter is the climax of the movie The New Daughter.

Producers have always tried to experiment with new themes and topics to make their movie a success. In this experiment they have entered into new territories and have traveled on unvisited roads as well. Many a times these experiments have been successful and the movies have been liked by the viewers while sometimes these have failed. Nevertheless the urge to try something new and adventurous has still remained both for the producers and the directors.

Neil Jordan has made an attempt to take you to his fairyland and tell a story through his latest movie Ondine. Ondine forms the central character of the movie and these are mythological nymphs. Written and directed by Neil Jordan, Ondine has a story which is enjoyable but is not believable as it is more of a fairy based story which moves around in a fairyland. Neil Jordan has succeeded to some extent in his this experiment because of the fine acting by the characters and his wonderful writing skills.

Syracuse is an Irish fisherman who has a 10 year old daughter suffering from kidney disease and he himself is a recovering alcoholic going through bad luck. While catching fish one day he catches a woman in the net who calls herself Ondine and remembers nothing about her life. As romance starts developing between the two of them, everything starts getting better in the lives of Syracuse and Annie as Ondine brings them luck. The past of Ondine returns to haunt her and a car crash crashes their lives as the movie moves on.

Alison Barry plays the role of Syracuse’s daughter Annie who plays an inspiring role as although she is convinced that the Ondine is not going to be there, but she stills lives in her dream world to overcome the hardships she is facing in the real world.

The writing of the movie has been done considerably well and hence Ondine shines out for the chemistry between Ondine and Syracuse, the love between the two seems natural and so does the locations where the movie has been shot; they completely fit into the storyline. As the movie oscillates between dream land and harsh realities the cinematography as well as the sound track of the movie are matching perfectly.

In all the movie might not be liked by everyone but still most of the people will enjoy it. If you have not watched it thus far you should definitely give it a try and remember not to think too much while watching it as it is more of a fairy tale.

But due to his violent behavior he is sent to a secluded location known as the Island as a last ditch effort. This correction home is under the command of Olavi Harjula (Tommi Korpela in a very gripping role).This foster house is the home of another six boys how have the same violent and trouble past as Juhani.

The other inhabitants of this house who serve as supporting characters of the movie are Harjula’s wife Irene, and their two daughters. The story explores the humane relation between all of them and the events that lead to the strengthening of Juhani’s future. There are side stories also like Juhani’s affair with one of the Harjula’s daughters. The story picks up some pace in the second half where the government decides to shut the house and the people there put an act of defiance. The Home of Dark Butterflies is packed with an excellent music score what liven up the drama in the movie. The music direction is helmed by the extremely talented Panu Altio and he lives up to its reputation.

The music director Panu Altio uses a minimalistic approach as he provides the background with a singing orchestra and only a piano. One of the many suspense thriller movies released in America of late is the “Unthinkable”. Though given a rating of “R” for extreme torture and brutal vulgarity, the movie did get a top billing and rating among the lovers of suspense thrillers. The direction of the movie has been handled by Gregor Jordan and the story is written by Oren Moverman and Peter Woodward. From the technical point of view, the direction is just more than the average quality, despite the weight of the story. Some of the scenes and the actions at specific points are also not laudable, to say the least. However, the plot as well as the weight of the story carries along making it worth watching.

The story of the movie briefly is as follows: An American Muslim plots nuclear weapons in three different places across the US and threatens to detonate the same if his demands are not met. He also gives an ultimatum of three days and threatens that the 4.5 pounds of uranium is capable of killing 10 million people. The FBI team, the CTU team and the military are summoned up to save the country and diffuse the three nuclear weapons.

Agent Brody of the CTU team is the character played by Carrie-Anne Moss and has done justice to the role with a neat work. Her soft attitude and insistence on abiding by the law while treating the militant are worth praise. The FBI team is headed by Mr. H, the role played by Samuel L Jackson. How these two interact, despite having two diametrically opposite views, in getting the details from Muhammad Younger, the militant, is the plot of the story.

True to the title of the story, torture to the militant to the extreme level is depicted in the movie and requires a large heart from the viewers to watch the same in the big screen. The morale of the story is that the FBI or other responsible agents are capable of doing whatever they can do to get the information from a suspected militant or accused person.

The cast for the film include Michal Sheen as the American Muslim militant, Yusuf Mohammed Younger, while Samuel L Jackson takes the role as Mr. H, and Carrie-Anne Moss is the soft- spoken Agent Brody.

The Dukes is a full comedy/drama film written and directed by Robert Davi. The movie is about Doo Wop band, not finding a right job for them and finally turning out to be bandits. The way the movie was pictured and presented in screen was awesome. It turned out to be a complete entertainer for almost 100 minutes. Love, life, heart and friendship are clearly portrayed in the movie. The essence of love and friendship was more than enough, which created a good feel for those who really enjoyed the film.

Two members of the Doo Wop band are George and Danny. They love their profession a lot and they dream of being present in a competitive world. MTV is their admiration and they often dream about being present in MTV for their performance. They dream a lot and they have desires of sky high.

This huge desire makes both of them to involve in crime activities. They become complete bandits and never bother about rules and laws. They keep on continuing their crimes against law.

In the meantime, George finds it difficult to manage his relationship with is son and needs a break in their relationship. In addition, his son needs some money to take care of his dental needs. George arranges some money for his son through his ridiculous activities and he wants to be a role model for his son. His son never now that his father is a bandit, cheating other and doing crimes. The crime scenes were shot with complete comedy and I am sure these comedies will make everyone laugh loud.

Some good and renowned actors made their presence feel in this movie. Chazz Palminteri, an Oscar nominee played the role of George in this film as one of the band performer. Peter Bogdanovich played the role of the manager of the band, Lou. Robert Davi, the director himself played the role of Danny, another member of the Doo Wop band. Cinematography was taken care of Michael Goi, an award-winning cinematographer. The Dukes is a complete fiesta for comedy and humor lovers.

Making a suspense thriller is theoretically proved to be playing with fire, but David does it right way. The high drama suspense flick comes with catchy tag line “In this game there are no rules”, making a beautiful analysis of seduction game, its aspects and binding them with a breathtaking story revealing twists and turns time to time. Many thrillers are brought alive and many die, but this one has the will to live and make us zeal with excitement the whole time.

David Decoteau the director, previously known for making horror movies; Leeches!, Final Stab, The Brotherhood, Grizzly Rage and so on but he appears to have scored a big hit, with this latest venture of his. Having been in industry for long time, since he was 18 knowing how to handle every aspect of this art, he succeeds in doing the right things too.

Matthew Jason Walsh, the screenplay writer who has been a friend and David’s companion in film making business for long, does create an entertaining and writes a brilliant story, the plot is ideally scripted lacking in no aspect. His experience for writing various screenplays from 90’s comes in use at this stage of his carrier. The wonderful effects and picturesque of the writer is brought alive by the ace cinematographer, Howard Wexler inducing a brilliance in the movie.

Daphne played by Kelly Albanese is a young beautiful seductress, who enjoys romancing young successful working men, and according to her desires she cold bloodily dumps them. This works till she meets a man who is not taken easily into her charming acts, medical students Nick portrayed by Kyle Jordan.

Thus begins the game of seduction by Daphne and her friends, and to succeed in their intended plan they seek to seduce Nick’s girlfriend, Heather (Candace Moon). But things go terribly wrong, and Heather encounters an accident, that is when Daphne finds her world going out of control and she has to pursue the dangerous path, and set things right. Will she be able to find out who really is the master of this game, or will she succumb to their plans.

Susan Anton, a former Miss California essays the role of Sandra Newell ideally, she has worked in Broadway shoes and has a Golden Globe nomination for Making Mr. Right. While Kelly Albanese is Daphne and she does it as beautifully as it can be done, she has previously done a hit show Monk.

It can be said that such a fine piece is not made every day, and it takes a lot of effort in scripting such an absolute imagination on paper, kudos to the entire team to create an unspoiled entertainer.

Live evil is an action thriller movie which has suspense in it throughout the movie. If you are a person of adventurous type, then you will surely love this movie. The movie is all about vampires, as they are in search for pure human blood, their food. In addition, a priest who waits for a chance to kill a certain group of vampires. He utilizes an opportunity as the vampires travel through some streets to find pure blood. Though there are many movies already portraying vampires, this one is a little different from other movies. This movie also portrays our present human environment with diseases that even vampires are falling back in hunting humans. Jay Woelfel wrote and directed this movie and he may satisfy with what he has given to public.

Choosing of characters is quite tough and the director managed to find some good cast here. Tim Thomerson is the Priest hunting for vampires, Mark Hengst[Benedict] acts as the head of the vampire group, Sydney role performed by Asa Wallander, Blood dealer Max role by Ken Foree, Officer Hick’s role by Lee Perkins and so on.

Summary of the movie:

The other one is Yale, very naughty and inexperienced. Vampires finally find Max, a blood dealer who steals blood from hospitals and serves vampires. Priest finds Roxy, a pure blooded man with whom he plans to fight with the vampires. What happens to this war is the climax.

Have you ever tripped on a story where you get to realize the limits of human pain, the level to which pain can be infused and the level to which it can be suffered? A movie with so powerful plot, which makes you think about the essence of the core values of right and wrong.

Unthinkable, not caring for any prohibitions does exactly that, it raises the questions of the pain a man should suffer and the pain a man can impose on another man. It raises the integrity of authority with the question can a man take life in the name of religion, in the name on interrogation. Gregor Jordan, credited with directing classics as Buffalo Soldiers, Nerd Kelly and The informers, comes this time with Unthinkable.

Peter Woodward, a passionate man associated with multiple levels of cinema writes this one with a very creative calibration. His level of inducement in movie making is such that he works as an actor Fringe, Charmed, Crusade and writes simultaneously; Closing the Ring, The House of Angelo and also is involved in various levels behind the camera as in producer, fight director and much more.

The plot gyrates around an American terrorist, Yusuf who claims to have planted nuclear bombs in three different anonymous cities in the America. Yet, he refuses to disclose the information of the location of the bombs. Special agent Helen Brody, heads the team of investigation fails to extract the required information from him. Agent ‘H’ is a special officer involved in the interrogation, and he has the authority to stoop to any level he wants to retrieve the vital information, that leads him to strapping down Yusuf’s arm and chopping off his fingers.

Soon, Yusuf deliberately misleads Brody off beam, which leads to detonation of one bomb in a shopping complex killing 53 people. Outraged, H bring Yusuf’s wife and tortures her abut of Yusuf. Still unfazed reaction by Yusuf makes H exasperated and he slits her throat making her bleed to death in front of his eyes. Next he brings in Yusuf’s children, but other team members intrude making H impede any level of harm on them. And the film cruises on forward.

It’s an excellent piece of cinema with a commercial angle, and deals with the basic question of human emotions, revenge, anger, pain, and suffering. The revenge in Yusuf’s mind toward America, the pain he suffers, the anger in ‘H’, his avenge. “Right and wrong no longer exist”, the movie stands true to its own words, and captivates real life.

Boosting of a talented cast, all of them giving memorable performance. Such as of Samuel L. Jackson, Carrie Anne Ross; known for portraying the role of Trinity from Matrix series, Brandon Routh; the hero of Superman returns, Michael Rose, Necar Zadegon, , Gill Bellows, Joshua Harto, Martin Donovan, Stephen Root. The movie has brilliant cinematography, with beautiful frames and emotions enraptured together. It couldn’t be better.
