Crime investigation based stories have become a good theme for making a show since they have both drama as well as mystery and are liked by the viewers and this fact is accepted by the producers as well. Some shows have gathered huge success though many have not. The rise in the shows can also be due to the new stories that come up day by day in the society regarding the increase in the crime rate and the intelligent efforts of the law enforcement agencies. These shows become thrilling due the new stories and new methods involved each time.

Cold Case is an American television series which deals with the solving of various cold cases. Cold Case in criminology refers to a criminal case that was not solved and is no longer being investigated. So, from the name itself it is clear what is done on the show. The show has a Philadelphia Police Department division (not in real) which is specialized in such type of cases.

The show is being currently broadcast in syndication on TNT prior to which the show was broadcasted on CBS from September 28, 2003 to May 2, 2010. Written by Timothy Slater, the show was created by Meredith Stiehm. Helmu and Franz Vonlichten are the theme composers, which also has an introduction by Michael.A.Levin while Nara created the opening theme. The music is not only used as an opening theme song, it also has a good role in taking you to the era to which the case originally belonged and therefore music has an important role to play in Cold Case.

This makes it easier for the viewer to go in the flashback. There have been a number of sources from where music has been picked up and a number of artists have given some effective numbers for the show. Lakeshore records in 2008 released a soundtrack CD which had incidental music composed by Michael.A.Levin from the first four seasons. The song 300 flowers which was sung by Robbyn Kirmsse is also in the CD.

Cold Case won IMAGE award in the category of outstanding directing in a dramatic series in 2006, ASCAP award for the top TV series from 2004 to 2009 and it also won GLAAD media award for Outstanding Individual Episode (In a Series without a Regular Gay Character) in 2006. Besides this the show has been nominated for a number of other awards as well.
