Correcting A Golf Shank
Why is it that every golfer is capable of playing some really dreadful shots. Even the most experienced golfers can have a bad day or a bad shot or two and surely the most distressing of these is the golf shank. It is a matter of understanding what causes this unfortunate type of shot and then taking steps to ensure you never have to be humiliated again.
So What Is A Golf Shank ?
A golf shank is when the heel of the club makes contact with the ball. This is an area otherwise known as the hosel or the shank of the club, hence the term. This is where the shaft of the club meets the head of the club in the heel of the club. This causes the ball to come away to the right of the target and often this means to the extreme right.
More often than not the player has incorrectly transferred their weight during the back-swing and ended up pushing forward onto their toes during the downswing, thereby moving the shaft of the club closer to the ball, the club-face farther from the ball and hitting more with the heel of the club. This is often accompanied by having the club-face in a more open angle than is desirable due pulling the heel of the club and not being square to the target, adding to the more likely outcome of the shank shot.
Standing too upright basically does the same thing in that it shuffles you in too close to the ball, causing your shoulders to swing too horizontally and the back-swing is too narrow and steep, leaving you little room and therefore little choice but to push the heel of club closer to the ball.
So What is Required To Fix a Golf Shank ?
Good balance and good rotation are keys to fixing a golf shank. If you swing out too far on the back-swing you will end up swinging through too much and out in front of the golf ball. To this end posture and set up are very important.Try and keep your weight centered so that you maintain good balance. The best way to do this is to ensure the knees are bent, your bottom is out with your back is arched. Keep the correct distance between you and the ball.
On your back-swing make sure that at the top position your left shoulder is pretty much over your right knee, which will help maintain your arc through the downswing and have you at the correct position as you address the ball.
By aligning your club-face slightly inside the line of the ball you will have the toe of the club rather than the heel of the club towards the ball.
By placing a row of tees, a club or a piece of string slightly outside the ball on the path of your golf swing to ensure you aim inside this line and more directly at the ball, you will ensure that you connect with the ball in the correct part of the club to avoid a golf shank.

How Unbiased Are Golf Reviews And Why Would You Read One ?
Reading golf reviews would have to be limited to those who have a particular interest in the sport of golf and are wanting to buy a golfing product on the recommendation of a person with knowledge on the subject or alternatively you have a purpose to for golfing information.
Buying Products on Recommendation From a Golf Review
How does one make a good, sensible decision on which product to buy by looking at a picture on a computer screen, glossy magazine or from the over-hyped pitch from the salesperson. It is not easy and you can spend many frustrating hours in search of the perfect product that serves all your needs, and still come away uncertain. You can ask those that you work with or your friends and acquaintances but do they really have the answers or the unbiased viewpoint. A good golf review will cut through the clutter and get you to the heart of the matter, having done all the had work for you. But be warned. Not all golf reviews are equal and some will no doubt have more of any eye on the sale than on the fairness of their review.
Using A Golf Review For Quality Information
Being able to rely on quality and relevant information is the answer to researching any market if you want to save time, trouble and frustration. Any good golf review will bring forth good quality views on the product or market it is covering. It can be a frustrating process piecing together all the information you need and even if you don’t get all the information from one source, you want to be able to get good quality chunks of information on any particular aspect from whichever source you are using. A good golf review will give you that information and also many useful golf tips and techniques that are able to be used for the intended purpose. As there are often more than one product being reviewed within each golf review, your source of information is then very wide ranging.
Piecing It All Together
In a nutshell, a good golf review is a very useful source of information for a number of differing reasons. Yes, the end result is often the need to make a sale but this should not stand in the way of you being able to determine whether the golf review is credible and worth listening to. Either way any good reviewer is happy for you to use the information offered, if it helps you in your cause, even if it does not result in a sale, because all good things that go around will inevitably come around. Once you have ascertained that you can trust what you read, then you may need to make the leap of faith to using the product or information, knowing that it comes with the recommendation of a credible expert who genuinely has your best interests at heart. No good reviewer will be in the business just to shonk you or rip you off. Why bother, there would have to be easier ways.

Stop Topping The Ball Off The Tee And Improve Your Golf
If topping the ball off the tee is a problem you have that you would like to rectify, then these three possible causes may help solve the problem.
There are a number of possible causes and these are three of the more common ones:
1)Not Checking Your Ball Position – There are two vital elements to ball position. The first is ensuring you are not too far forward with the ball. If you are this will cause you to over-stretch and hit the ball late in the downward swing thereby topping the ball. The second element is having the ball teed up too low. The general rule of thumb is to have the top half of the ball visible above the top of the club at the tee. If the ball is teed too low you will bring the club through to high in relation to it and top the ball.
2)Not Checking Your Aim – If you aim too far right when teeing off you are likely to pull out of your shot a little early and too fast, pulling up and causing a reverse weight shift by having you caught too centred in your stance and this results in you topping the ball.
3)Too Much Turn in the Backswing – Turning excessively in the backswing will have you in a difficult position as you come through the shot to address the ball by making you swing too long, making it much harder to get the club back out in front of you in the correct manner in the follow through. The club will have to come from the outside to inside position as you complete your swing, pull you more towards the left and cause your weight shift to be reversed and then causing you to top the ball as you attempt to hit the ball correctly.
Another possible cause is having the ball too far back meaning you have to try and pull out of the shot a little early in order to hit the ball, causing some imbalance and again meaning you are topping the ball.
So ball position is a key element as it affects timing, stance, weight shift and the elements of backswing and follow through.
So when you are thinking about your game and trying to improve your golf, remember to always go back to the basics by checking your ball position and your stance. Then look at your swing and stay 3/4 limited turn rather than having yourself over-stretching and therefore losing composure. Rather, get back to a more limited turn and ensure correct ball position and the chances are you will be hitting the ball off the tee straight and true.
These are just some of the many tips available to help you improve you golf and prevent you from topping the ball.

To have a coaching program at your side while trying to improve your golf is a valuable asset. This book is thorough and methodical in it’s approach to helping develop your game in the areas that are important to you.
I will often read through a section and then work on that part of my golf game before moving on to the next section.
I was very impressed with the notion that is bought up in the book on page77 that one should not try to get ahead of oneself in golf. Just take the time to learn from the basics up, in your own time, and move ahead only as you gain confidence and ability rather than try and “push it” all too soon, as sometimes ” the faster you try and go the further you fall behind”
It is refreshing to find that this book covers all aspects of your golf game both technical and also mental and combines the two in a way that ensures all bases are covered.
Everyone learns in different ways and sometimes visual aids such as video can make the learning process easier. While it is available as a optional extra I found it wasn’t part of the main program.
For those golfers willing to put the effort in to improve their golf, I believe this book would prove to be an invaluable aid to achieving their goals for improvement.
Take one tip from this book, put it into action and I’m positive you will have received enough value from that single tip to justify the cost of the program. At the end of the day it is about what will allow to to make progress.
In summary, the trick is to be a coach to yourself and not a critic, as it is a game of confidence and composure. This book gives you all the necessary golf tips and tricks, to be able to coach yourself beyond just the technical aspects of the game and equally allows you to build confidence.
Always remember why you play the game in the first place. Satisfaction and enjoyment.
