Seven Pounds is an American drama that was released in December, 2008 starring Will Smith, Woody Harrelson, Rosario Dawson, and Barry Pepper. It features a man (played by Will Smith) who attempts to alter the lives of seven people. The film was directed by Gabriele Muccino and was released by Columbia Pictures in both the United States and Canada in December. It has a 123 minute run time and is rated PG-13 for sensuality, disturbing content, and thematic material.
Filming for Seven Pounds was done in Malibu, Pasadena, and the greater Los Angeles area of California. Other actors that can be seen in the film are Elpidia Carrillo, Judyann Elder, Michael Ealy, Bill Smitrocivh, Robinne Lee, and Quintin Kelly. The screenplay was written based on a script by author Grant Nieporte.
Seven Pounds was basically kept a mystery by both cast and crew, with the trailers being very vague. The studio even refused to explain the title to those in the film community. Smith told fans after the film was released the title was a reference to Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. Director Muccino didn’t want audiences knowing what Will Smith’s character was going to be doing throughout the film; he wanted as much of an element of surprise as possible.
The plot of Seven Pounds finds an IRS agent, Tim Thomas played by Will Smith, causing a car wreck in which he kills seven people. He is filled with remorse which he cannot overcome, so he tries to save the lives of seven good people to atone for the deaths his wreck caused. He finds seven worthy people and awards them each a rare gift. He donates a lung to his brother, a kidney to a high school coach, bone marrow to a young child, and part of his liver to a child service worker.
Thomas meets a woman whose boyfriend is abusing her, so he moves into a motel and gives her the deed to his vacated house. He ultimately commits suicide by climbing into a bathtub full of poisonous jellyfish. He keeps the temperature freezing so it will save his vital organs and he can give his final two gifts.
He gives his corneas to an old blind man (played by Woody Harrelson) and he gives his heart to a young woman (played by Rosario Dawson) with a rare blood type and fatal heart condition, whom he just happened to be in love with. With these final two gifts he has save the lives of seven people, each of which he had gotten to know on a personal level. Seven Pounds promoted charities and held fund raisers for the needy in many different cities all over America. It was promoted in order to raise money for food banks and other various charities.
The film opened in 2,758 different theaters and grossed $16 million its opening weekend, which was $5 million less than expected. This was the lowest opening weekend gross for a Will Smith movie since 2001 and received mixed critical reviews from various sources. The only award it has won to date is an Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture (Smith) at the Image Awards in 2009. It was nominated for Outstanding Motion Picture at the 2009 Image Awards and Rosario Dawson, writer Nieporte, and director Muccino were both nominated for awards as well.

The movie Push, released February 6 2009, starring Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, Chris Evans, Camilla Belle, and Cliff Curtis, directed by Paul McGuigan and written by David Bourla is a Sci-Fi action thriller. It is rated PG-13 for violence, intense strong language, teenage drinking, and smoking scenes. It was filmed on location in Hong Kong, which makes for an exotic background.
Push centers on a group of ordinary, common people, each of whom figure out they have their own special super power. These are the “good guys” that band together in order to attempt and conquer a corrupt, wicked government agency, the American Division. The Division has been controlling a group of soldiers by injecting them with dangerous supplemental enhancement drugs in order to make them stronger, more powerful, and more advanced than anyone else on earth. The Division uses genetic transformers on regular, common citizens to change them into evil psychic warriors. This show features the typical “good guys” versus “bad guys” scenario.
Watchers have the ability to see certain parts of the future. Their knowledge of the future causes it to change, making it change at a very fast rate. Movers are able to manipulate inanimate objects. They can also use this power to boost their power during attacks. Pushers are able to implant memories, emotions, and thoughts in others, thus enabling them to make others do whatever they want them to do. The more powerful the Pusher, the more people he/she can control at once. Bleeders can give off extremely high-pitched sonic vibrations that have the ability to rupture a target’s blood vessels. Critics have given somewhat negative reviews of the cast of Push for being considerably weak, although Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning gave their customary superior performances. The characters were under developed and the plot was unyielding and tough to follow. The film was only given a positive rating by 21% of critics, and fans didn’t give the film much better ratings either.
Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning give their usual spectacular performances in this film, however the supporting cast has received negative reviews and called “weak” by critics. Characters were not well developed and the overall story plot was hard to follow. The film was negatively reviewed overall and was not popular with either critics or fans. In fact, it only received a 21% positive rating.
Push opened in over 2,000 theaters in the United States, grossing $10,079,109 its first weekend, taking the sixth spot on the charts. Southland is an American drama TV show which was produced by Warner Bros. Television. This show was created by Ann Biderman. Ann is a writer of TV shows and also films. Born in 1951, Ann has been quite well acclaimed for her work on TV.
NBC had aired the fist Southland show on April 9, 2009. Given the response to the show, the announcement to commission the 2nd season was made in May, 2009 and the 2nd season was supposed to air in September, 2009. But NBC did not air the 2nd season in September, 2009, instead choosing to announce on October 8, 2009 that the show would be canceled. Later, fans of the show were happy to learn that the show rights had been bought over by TNT and the show came on air from January 12, 2010 at 9 pm, and not 10 pm as it used to air at NBC. The new show consists of 7 of the earlier episodes and 6 new episodes.
The story of Southland is quite close to reality and based on real-life incidents that occur in LA. The plots take into account officers of the LAPD, where the focus is on incidents and not on procedural details of the police department. There was something dark and sinister about the initial season, where the stories though based on patrol officers of the LAPD, did not go too well with NBC. This led to its take over by TNT, which wanted to change the format of the show. the new season of the show now concentrates not on serialized stories, but on specific focus on how crimes are committed.
The initial cast of the show included Kevin Alejandro who plays the role of Detective Nate Moretta, Arija Bareikis who essays the role of Officer Chickie Brown and the role of Officer John Copper is played by Michael Cudlitz. The important roles of Detective Lydia Adams and Officer Ben Sherman are played by Regina King and Tom Everett Scott respectively.
Southland has got mostly positive reviews and on Metacritic the show has a rating of 69 points out of a possible total of 100. the story line and its fast paced treatment appeal to viewers as well as critics to. There is no wonder that the show was not allowed by TNT to suffer an untimely death, which bought the rights to the show from NBC, which was planning to axe it.

Publishers Strive To Protect Hardback Sales As E-Book Popularity Increases

Amazon’s clearly stated policy of setting the price of Kindle books at $ 9.99 or less has led to some tough discussions with the major publishing houses. Recently, this even resulted in the brief removal of books by publishing giant McMillan from the Amazon website. McMillan books are now being sold on the Amazon site, and they may have managed to secure more favourable pricing for their books – in the short term at least – but the large publishing houses need to take care.
The very fact that the Kindle reader became Amazon’s top selling product so rapidly shows how quickly the public have taken to e-book readers. As well as the Kindle, there are many different e-book readers available for consumers to choose from. Although the market is very new, and still in a developmental phase, it is growing exponentially.
E-book reader owners may well be in the minority at the moment – and this is likely to be the case for some time to come – but they have already begun to form an extremely important market segment within the industry. Think about it – would you buy an e-book reader if you read a book a month? The owners of e-book readers get through a lot of books.
They are likely to have a fairly high disposable income level – or else how would they manage to spend more than $200 on a discretionary item like an e-book reader? There are probably fairly well educated, they are certainly well read, and they are likely to be well-informed and to keep up to date with topical items. Put it another way, they are the target demographic for booksellers and publishers.
They will certainly be aware that it costs much less to produce an e-book than it does to produce either a hardback or paperback book. It would be a major error if publishers or booksellers were to disregard these early adopters of e-book reader technology.
But that may be exactly what many publishers are in danger of doing at the moment. It’s quite understandable that the major publishing houses would wish to protect the sales and profits that they make from the lucrative hardback editions. However, pressurising book sellers to artificially increase the price of the books in order to do this may prove to be a self-defeating policy. The publishers run the risk of making themselves look like playground bullies only concerned with protecting their own self-interest. They may be able to push booksellers like Amazon around at the moment, but if consumers feel they are being forcibly artificially high prices they will soon become dissatisfied.
