Online retail giant, Amazon, was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos and the original Amazon website launched in 1995. Today Amazon is an extremely successful business and one of the best recognised and most trusted brands on the planet. It’s easy to forget what an unusual concept ordering books online and having them shipped by mail was at the time. There were plenty investors and business analysts who predicted that Amazon would have a difficult time of it – and indeed it took until the end of 2001 before Amazon were able to report their first profit.

After modifying the way that many people bought books, Amazon quickly diversified into other areas. Video, music CDs, toys, consumer electronics and computer software are just some examples of the types of items which Amazon added to their list of product offerings. At the moment you can find virtually any consumer product that you can imagine on Amazon’s website – even your groceries if you like.

In addition to growing their product range, Amazon set up further websites in the UK, France, Germany, China and Canada. Nevertheless, they maintained their original passion for books and they still had, in the eyes of the public, a very strong link with book sales.

This strong link with books would serve them well in November 2007 when they launched the original Kindle e-book reader. Having already changed the method of buying books, Amazon was now altering the way that the books were read. The Kindle attracted a great deal of publicity and it’s reasonable to suggest that the e-book reader market took off exponentially when Amazon released their updated and enhanced Kindle 2.0 in February of 2009.

The large display Kindle DX reader was launched in June of the same year. This incorporated a large (9.7″) e-ink display and was intended to appeal to readers of newspapers, magazines and academic textbooks. A great deal of the excitement generated by the release of the DX originated from the normally very traditional world of academic publishing.

So, the manner in which books are bought, delivered and read have all been radically modified in a relatively short time frame. The last piece of the reading jigsaw – publishing – is also likely to change in the near future. Any major publisher will almost certainly require to publish an e-book version of any new editions in future. The well established process of hardback publication, followed a few months later by the paperback version will be altered by the insertion of an e-book version at the front end of the cycle.

Given that publishing e-books is considerably less expensive than a traditional print run, it’s possible that publishing houses may be encouraged to take a chance on less well established authors in future. It may be that more authors will decide to cut out publishers altogether and go down the self publishing route. The art of television comedy will never would have changed to become a part of primetime viewing if it were not for the phenomenal TV show, Everybody Loves Raymond. The interest of the audience is highly aroused due to the fact that the plot and the scenes being shown on the show comes from the actual experiences of the lead character, Ray Romano and the show producer, Phil Rosenthal. There were episodes that were based on the lives of the writers and staff of the show. Other characters in the show are actually counterparts of real persons who are important to the lives of Ray Romano and Phil Rosenthal. This is what makes the show different from those currently existing in the broadcast business: the personal touch of the characters that play their roles in it.

The show was first aired on September 13, 1996 and from there it quickly gained much popularity in comparison to the competing shows at that moment. Raymond’s dad, Frank, is also very unusual. He acts strangely towards other people and does not exercise care when talking to other people. He has this aura of sarcasm around him. However, there is a good side to Frank being so focused on his family. The show is also highlighted by the jealousy that Debra shows on the sports casting job of Raymond. She thinks that he loves his job much more than her and she is not getting the attention she deserves from her husband. Debra makes it a point to deprive Ray of sex in order for him to feel her jealousy.

If you’re considering watching a relatively recent award-winning movie, I’d recommend Milk! For the small section of people who have no clue what the title represents, the Milk movie is not about the healthy drink that’s got from cows, goats, etc. It’s a biographical movie that depicts the life of Harvey Milk, the man who became the first gay person to be voted a public officer in San Francisco, California. Milk also laid claim to the distinction of being among the first three gay persons to do so in all of the United States.

This second movie on Harvey Milk and follows the storyline of its previous version. The previous version of the movie was released way back in November 1984 with the title ‘The Times of Harvey Milk’. This movie made its way to Oscars and won an Oscar for the Best Documentary Film. People do tend to compare the revised version with the original one, however, they couldn’t make out much of a difference quality wise. The 2008 version and got nominated for 8 categories at the Academy Awards and won Oscars with the titles of Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Original Screenplay. Best Actor in a Leading Role was awarded to Sean Penn for his excellent performance in the role of Harvey Milk. Best Original Screenplay was awarded to Dustin Lance Black.

The filming for Milk was also as authentic as it gets with the crew moving down to San Francisco’s Castro Street and even the camera shop that Milk once owned – Castro Camera. The movie captures Milk’s life from the age of 40 right up to his assassination. It starts with him in New York from where he moves to San Francisco with his lover Scott Smith refusing to stay hiding in his closet for the rest of his life.

Franciscan community. Milk basically focuses on the rights of gays in the by gone years and their upgradation. Harvey Milk was one man who really worked hard to change this part of every gay’s life at the time when being a gay was considered awfully shameful. Milk saw many failures in the early years of his life before being voted as supervisor. The realization of the seriousness of the gay rights issue incited a struggling phase in Milk’s life. Two of his colleagues Anita Bryant and Dan White were also elected at the same time as Milk.

Dan White’s role has been perfectly portrayed by Josh Brolin. Dan White is a character with conservative ideas and was therefore constantly “out-voted” by Milk and other supervisors who are liberal. Dan White’s increasing frustrations end up in devastating mess and mark the chilling end of the movie. ‘Milk’ is one movie you should surely go for. It is interesting, emotional and funny. The Ghost whisperer is one of the famous TV shows on the genre of drama in America. The series began in the year 2005. The main character of the story is Melinda Gordon which is played by Jennifer Love Hewitt. Melinda who is married recently lives in a small town and runs an antique store. She is at present trying to manage with her new marriage and also to run the shop along with the ghosts.

Melinda has a unique ability wherein she can communicate with ghosts who are stuck in our world. She usually communicates with them to understand why they haven’t moved onto to the next world and tries to understand what went wrong. She also goes out of her way at times to fulfil their quests so that they can peacefully move on to the next world. This unique ability to talk with ghosts was passed onto Melinda from her grandmother who had trained Melinda in the use of this power.

One major thing which has attributed towards the success of the series is the casting of Jennifer love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon. She has done it excellently. One more thing is the plot of the episodes, it has been made to leave the viewers in gripping suspense that they don’t even switch channels during commercials. And after each episode ends the series makes them expecting what comes next, this feature has contributed to its popularity.

In addition to the excellence of Jennifer love Hewitt as Melinda the other supporting characters also prove to the success of the series. The characters of Jim Clancy who is the husband of Melinda is cast by David Conrad and the role of Andrea Marino is done by Aisha Taylor excels equally as that of Melinda. Both these roles are performed to perfection by both these actors with class. Hence it’s rather like watching a Hollywood movie than a TV show.

Although the show is popular among the viewers some critics also feel that the show is not worthy of all that. This can be seen from some of the reviews and comments of the critics. One among the reviews is that Jennifer love Hewitt’s acting is very feeble and not appreciative. And all the popularity the show has gained so far is only due to the exposing she has done. In addition to that many people also feel that the show has got the same sequence of plot repeated in every show, in which a new ghost bursts out and she tries to help it by going around town to find answers and also finds one at the end.

“The Isaac Bell Novels” is a new hit series by “one of the greatest adventure novelists of our time” (imdb), Clive Cussler. The Wrecker is the sequel to the successful first Isaac Bell novel, titled The Chase. (The next release in the series is scheduled for June 1, 2010.)

As with the first novel in the series, The Chase, the hero of The Wrecker is a detective named Isaac Bell who combines the sleuthing brilliance of Sherlock Holmes with the physical prowess and fearlessness of James Bond.

Conveniently, Isaac Bell is also independently wealthy, heir to a prominent Boston banking family. After disappointing his father by not following in his footsteps, Bell has pursued his detective work with a fervor that spells obsessive passion more than a way to make a living.

Isaac Bell gets hired by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company to find and stop a saboteur known as “The Wrecker,” who has targeted Southern Pacific construction sites throughout the West. If the sabotage continues in the midst of pressing deadlines to finish work on a major new track, it could cost Southern Pacific its good standing with its lenders, and rapidly lead to bankruptcy.

Unbeknownst to all until the very end of the book, The Wrecker is a regular member of the inner circles of Southern Pacific Railroad president Osgood Hennessy, even courting the railroad baron’s “unspeakably beautiful” daughter Lillian. He’s a formidable adversary, perhaps as brilliant as Isaac Bell himself.

The Wrecker’s agenda turns out to be the hostile takeover of not only the Southern Pacific Railroad but as a side effect gaining complete control of the entire United States railroad system, at a time in history when the wealthiest men in America were railroad barons such as Vanderbilt, Harriman and others.

As a story taking place in the early 1900’s, this book also offers a perfect opportunity for avid car enthusiast Clive Cussler to present some classic automobiles from the era when the experimental variety of styles was the greatest because few standards had yet been established.

Automobiles featured in The Wrecker include a Packard Grey Wolf, the 1907 Model 35 Thomas Flyer, winner of the New York to Paris race of 1908, Isaac Bell’s classic Locomobile, and a Bugatti Type 41 Royale.

Although Clive Cussler may be best known for his love of diving and sea exploration, both through his fictional stories and non-fictional enterprises, he obviously also cherishes the rugged landscapes of the American West. Why else would he have chosen to live in the mountains of Colorado, as far from the sea as you can get in the United States?

Through The Wrecker, we get a glimpse of this other side of Cussler, the one that loves the arid mountainous landscapes of the American West. And it’s an enthusiasm that shines through with unmitigated contagiousness. The new Isaac Bell series may well help give birth to a whole new generation of Western enthusiasts, as well as spark great excitement in many old ones. With all due respect to the previous Clive Cussler series, his Isaac Bell stories may top them all.

Amazon Kindle users will be able to download more than 65,000 19th century classic books for free thanks to a project run in partnership between the British Library and Microsoft. Starting in the spring of 2010, the works of authors such as Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and Thomas Hardy will be available in e-book format including the original illustrations (where applicable) and a period type face to give an e-book which has an antique look.

Dame Lynne Brindley, the Chief Executive of the British Library, said that making 19th century literature available for free would allow some forgotten literary gems to be enjoyed by a new readership. It’s planned that around 25 million pages will be available.

The British Library has partnered with Microsoft over the last three years to digitize and store text and images from out of copyright works. Special software – “Turning The Pages” – which Microsoft helped to develop lets users gain access to rare manuscripts which they would otherwise be unable to read. Viewers can zoom in on a page, alter the orientation and view details of illustrations – especially useful for works such as Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks or musical scores by the likes of Mozart.

Every work of literature published in the UK has at least one copy held in the British Library. Of the 19th century works, around 40% are not available in any other library.

This announcement represent only the latest phase in the British Library’s ongoing project which has made in excess of two million pages from 19th century British newspapers available to the public. It’s planned that another 50 million items will be scanned, stored and made available by 2020. The storage of 20th century out of copyright books is due to commence in the near future – but this part of the project still requires finance to be secured.

If you prefer something more traditional, printed copies of the books which will have the same “first edition” look and feel of the originals will be available from Amazon’s online site. Prices start at $ 23 (15). A typical original by Austen or Dickens in fair condition would cost at least $ 400 ( 250), and possibly considerably more.

America has seen a number of really good comedy series over the years and Chuck is one of those. But what makes Chuck stand apart from the rest of the comedy series in the US is the fact that it is not only outstandingly funny but also has some really brilliant action scenes and is a complete entertainment powerhouse.

The Chuck show started on 24th September 2007 and they are presently showing their third session. The central character is of Chuck Bartowski who is bored of computer but working as clerk in a computer store. The character is played by Zachari Levi. Another major character in the series is of Sarah Walker who a brave girl is striving to save the world and living a life at risk. But she always has dreams of ordinary life.

There is other side to the story. Some people feel that it is not a very funny show. The fact is the show Chuck is not a comedy show, here act is there with comedy. In this people can not keep laughing throughout. The series is to spread happiness. Their actors do the job of spreading it. They may be all very old characters but they are so real that every person can share with them and feel sorry for them.

There are a number of reasons why so many Americans love this series and also why this series has won a couple of primetime Emmy awards. One of the reasons is the plot wherein Chuck somehow manages to download some secret government information into his brain and then his former college friend who is now a CIA agent helps him become a secret agent.

The characters in the series are very special. Actually they are not any strange characters but they are very familiar to whom you have met in different movies or serials. But these characters used to be seen separately in at separate places. Here all of them are together. All the actors have played the characters very correctly that they seem real.

As a final point the most wonderful feature of the show is which nearly all Americans liked is the Sarah and Chuck connection. Both of them have played the roles so perfectly that audience feel that they are real ones in which a nerd guy meets a most beautiful and sexy woman and so fortunate to get her. It not at all feels like a fiction. They are the soul of the show.

Besides this the show has action and excitement to watch for. There is action and fun in every part of the series and it is a pleasant feeling after an episode. There might some who have not seen the series but the best part is that they can watch it now that too without spending any money. What all is required is just an internet connection. If asked from any regular viewer about the High School Musical trilogy, it doesn’t come as a surprise that most of them will know all scenes from it. This beautifully compiled collection of high school has won the favour of many movie buffs with its appeal. Stars of High School Musical 3, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel manage to keep the viewers totally glued to the screen with their performance throughout the movie.

Produced by Bill Borden, Barray Rosenbush, Don Schain and Kenny Ortega, the movie’s directed by Kenny Ortega of the mega-documentary This Is It featuring the rehearsal footage of the late Michael Jackson.

Main characters of High School Musical 3, Troy and Gabriella (played by Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens) that play the role of students at the brink of adulthood. The school life of Troy and Gabriella is going to end soon and the life of college life is about to start. It may seem as a blissful state to many but for Troy and Gabriella it’s sad as they are going to go in separate ways that are routed towards their colleges located in different locations. Troy has decided to go for the University of New Mexico (which is in relatively close proximity), while Gabriella is plans to attend the Julliard School of Arts located in the fast-paced Big Apple.

Besides the main characters, other characters of the movie that add charm to the movie’s viewer ship are Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), and her twin brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel), as well as Chad (Corbin Bleu) and Taylor (Monique Coleman). Zac and Vanessa try their best to play the lead roles in a perfect mode with their musical instinct.
