Inspired by the British ‘Pop Idol’ the United States of America started a reality game show called the ‘American Idol’ in June 2002. The show gives a chance for talented singers to make their way to become America’s favorite pop icon. Judged by a panel of four members, singers between 16 and 29 years of age can participate who finally get judged by the viewers.

American Idol has a unique logo with the letters ‘American Idol’ appearing in blue along an angled line in an oval. The show also boasts of a unique intro sequence spanning for 30 seconds. The intro sequence usually features the past winners of the show but in seventh season the American Idol intro sequence got creative showing an exciting performance of idols.

The show usually has 300 contestants advancing to the theatre round in which they are tested in three rounds (chorus, trio and then a solo). The winners of this round become semifinalists who get trained by experts and at this stage the viewers start voting. Contestants with leading votes march to the grand finale usually held at the Nokia Theatre, United States.

FOX channel broadcasts the American Idol Tv Show. It is hosted by Ryan Seacrest and the show goes for around 60 minutes. The judges give critiques and they also suggest tips and give advice to the contestants for improving their performance. Usually a colored card is used to indicate selection or elimination. Winners get a recording deal promised and also other benefits.

The American idol show of music and entertainment is held every year and within six years from its inception, seven seasons were held. One feature of the show which keeps the viewers hooked is that they get to vote for their favorite singers. The voting system is exercised via phone and internet and the singer with the highest vote becomes the American Idol!!

And the reach of the show is such that irrespective of becoming a winner, the contestants become hugely popular with the citizens which give them the much wanted break in their career. Jennifer Hudson, who ended up only seventh in one of the seasons, went on to become the best supporting actress of the year. That is the popularity even the participants get.

While the many channels on your tv are full of various tv shows, there are a few that capture your attention instantly hook you before you even notice. The Californication TV show definitely falls into this category. Providing viewers with a dose of comedy and drama, the show has earned itself an impressive rating of 8.7/10 on the reputed imdb website. Starring David Duchovny in the lead role, the series is loosely based on the life of well-known American writer and poet, Charles Bukowski.

The name of the leading character of a writer in the series is Hank Moody and the role is played by actor David Duchovny. The writer travels to California to beat the writer’s block. Karen, his steady girlfriend and Becca, their daughter also move with him. The role of Karen is played by Natascha mcelhone and that of Becca by Madeleine Martin. Apart from writer’s block the writer was struggling to control his irresistible desires like alcohol, sex and drugs.

He wanted to show to his girlfriend that he has the capability to become a reliable and dependable partner and also a responsible and kind father. The series is based on the contradictory situations arising in day-to-day life of the write and he pushes all the guilt to the writer’s block. The episode of half an hour is comedy and entertaining for the viewers. The write also gets viewers empathy for the mess he does in the series.

Moody’s agent and his wife are two more major characters in the series played by Evan Handler and Pamela Adlon respectively. Damian Young plays the part of Karen’s fianc Bill Lewis. Mia Lewis is Bill’s teenage daughter played by Madeline Zima. Apart from these main characters there are some tiny roles which take the story ahead. All together the show is enjoyable and worth watching.

Not surprisingly, the show has won three awards so far, not to mention numerous nominations. Among the three winners are two consecutive Emmy awards – for Outstanding Cinematography, in 2008 (Peter Levy) and 2009 (Michael Weaver). The third award – a Golden Globe in 2008 – was won by Duchovny himself for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series. Some of the nominations include three consecutive Golden Globe nominations for David Duchovny’s convincing portrayal of Hank Moody (including the one he won in 2008).

Many people would like to see the series all over again. Yes it is fact that we are not able to show the previous season again on Showtime. But the fans of this popular show should get disappointed. Continue reading further for good news.

It almost sounds too good to be true – and that may well be exactly how the Amazon marketing team feel when they look back at the Amazon Kindle reader’s short, but hugely successful career to date. The Kindle is absolutely the ideal device for Amazon, with its strong public image in the fields of both books and electronics, to market.

Just as digital cameras and digital photo frames have gradually replaced the traditional equivalents, the new way of reading is going to be digital. The e-book reader is the latest hot gadget. When Oprah Winfrey advised that her Kindle was her “favorite new gadget” you can be sure that all of her viewers paid attention. Amazon’s marketing men must have been doing cartwheels.

Amazon got yet further great publicity during the launch of the Kindle 2.0 in February of 2009. Novelist Stephen King wrote a special Kindle themed novella – “Ur” – to commemorate the occasion. Sony has struck a deal with Google so that they can make the search engine giant’s library of electronic books available to Sony customers. Since electronic books don’t consume paper, ink or binding materials, they tend to be somewhat cheaper than the conventional printed equivalent. The first chapter of Kindle books can be downloaded as a free sample – so you can even try before you buy.

E-books are also better for the environment – for the same reasons as listed above. Every year, the American magazine, newspaper and book sector requires 125 million trees to be felled in order to supply enough paper to feed our reading habits. Don’t forget all the chemicals, ink and energy consumed in the manufacture of our traditional reading material – or the transport required to deliver the various books and magazines to the end user.

E-book readers are, very definitely, the wave of the future. Both Amazon and Sony have established themselves in the market – but prices will fall due to the influence of increased competition from other competitors. At the end of the day, customers are going to benefit from lower environmental impact, an improved buying and delivery method and lower prices.

It’s an easy trip to Formentera, but you can’t get there by plane as there is no airport. There is a helipad, but you need to book well in advance to be able to use it. The most conventional route is to take a ferry from one of the mainland Spanish ports (Barcelona, Denia, Alicante) or from one of the Balearic Island ports of Ibiza Town or Palma. You will arrive at the port of La Savina, and if you are coming from Ibiza the crossing will only take you around thirty minutes.

The length of time that you decide to stay on Formentera will dictate where you decide to go. For example, most day trippers just head up to the stunning white beaches of the northern peninsula known as Es Trucadors. If you need some help planning your trip then you can pop into the Tourist Information Office, which is just opposite the ferry. There is also another one that is in the village of Sant Francesc.

The incredible stretch of white sand beaches, islets, coves, and turquoise waters that make up Es Trucadors has views out to S’Espalmador and Es Vedra. And that is not the only natural beauty on display as this part of the island is a hot spot for naturism. To get to the beaches is just a 15 minute cycle from the port of La Savina. Then you can roam free.

Book early! There are so few houses on Formentera, and a limited number of hotels, that you need to plan your vacation carefully. From the desolate farmhouses of El Pilar de la Mola to the frenetic resort hotels of Es Pujols, this small island has a lot to offer the visitor. Your choice should be dictated by the type of vacation you want, but do bear in mind that the island is just 82 kilometers in circumference so wherever you end up is in striking distance of the other attractions.

Es Pujols is the island’s only real resort so this is a popular choice. It has a frenetic pace relative to the other parts of the island, and there is a throng of young Italians and Germans teeming the streets at all hours of day and night. A more sedate, and central location would be the village of Sant Francesc, which is the island’s capital.

It is a great feeling to come to the end of a rough draft. Knowing that you can do it, that you have created a complete novel is something that does not get old, even after writing many novels. It does not matter how good you get at the writing process, every new rough draft will need to be edited. If you have mastered the basics such as good grammar, formatting and punctuation, some of the editing steps will easier than the others.

We can compare editing to the process of cleaving, cutting and polishing a rough diamond. Diamonds take a long time to form, and when they are mined from the earth, they are rough yet beautiful. Each stage in the process is important and important for getting the most potential out of the tough gem.

Cleaving is the part of editing that can be started right after you have typed the end. This is where you step back and take a look at the large picture. Macro editing. Do you feel satisfied with your ending at that very moment? Do you have scenes that you will need to insert to make more sense out of your ending? Do you have a character that you need to develop more or one that you need to get rid of all together?

It is best not to make any of those changes right then. The diamond cleaver turns the rough gem in his hand and makes observations, sets the diamond in a type of cement and walks away from it, letting it cool. I suggest writing your observations and to do list down in notes, backup your draft once more and then not looking at it for a minimum of thirty days.

During that waiting period, relax and celebrate, but also start working on a new project. Work on rough notes and an outline for a new book or if you do not have an idea for a new story, find writing prompts and exercises that will challenge you and possibly give you some ideas. A week before you start editing, spend some time reading advice from others on the editing process.

Once the waiting period is over, read your manuscript from front to back. You will have a fresh perspective on it, and you will be able to work on those notes that you made earlier with confidence and precision. Tweak your ending, change your beginning, remove those characters or scenes that don’t advance the plot and add those small foreshadowing details that bring depth to the story and give more meaning to the ending. When you are done, put the manuscript away again. For a day, a week or longer if you need to and come back to it, ready to do the micro editing.

Matt Damon stars in the action thriller ‘The Bourne Identity’ based on the book by Robert Ludlum. Doug Liman directs this spy thriller which has all the makings of a blockbuster. Though critics had initially dismissed the film as a potential box office dud, the collections worldwide had proved otherwise. Matt Damon, as the assassin, is the latest pin-up guy after this film.

In the opening sequence of the thriller an Italian fishing boat is shown picking up a young man from the sea. The guy is nearly dead but brought back to life the helping attitude of the fishermen. He is seen suffering from amnesia. He was not carrying anything when fished out. However, he is has bullet wounds in his back and a bank account number engrafted in his hip. He is without any form of identity or background. But when he exhibits tremendous skills in martial arts, self defense and has a wonderful control over languages. All these point to a dangerous side of this man. When he searches through a bank vault, he comes across documents that prove that his name is Jason Bourne.

He is confused as to why the CIA wants to finish him off. He began searching for answers and in this dangerous mission his companion is Marie, his love interest. He is hell bent on finding out why his life has taken a perilous turn. The film has a huge share of action scenes and is a very fast paced one too.

The Bourne Identity movie is a highly entertaining thriller with lots of action scenes and lots of martial arts on display. There is absolutely nothing in the movie that can be termed as unnecessary or overdone. The romance between Julia Stiles and Matt Damon is always hinted but never shown at an extreme point. There are no overt sexual scenes to titillate the audience. The film holds its own through a powerful storyline and stellar performances.

The car chase scenes are the highlights of this movie. After a long time we see a film which is so sleek in production. People will not be bored in watching the action sequences as there is a feeling of something new in these scenes.

Performance wise Matt Damon is miles ahead of the rest of the star cast. He is an intense actor and delivers his lines with a lot of punch. It is hard to imagine any other actor as Jason Bourne. Among others, Julia Stiles as Marie has little to do so it’s very hard to judge her performance. She looks sexy, that’s it. Brian Cox as the government boss Ward Abbott is very convincing in his role.

This is a movie which is just too good to miss. I hope the local DVD store has many copies of this wonderful movie. But to avoid all tensions I suggest that you watch The Bourne Identity online free. It will be a real shame if you miss this flick ‘coz even if you are not a big fan of action movies, you will still love it. So just sit back, switch on your PC and watch the movie.

The year was 1945 and devout christian Rev. Wilbert Audry gave the world it’s first read of soon to be iconic children’s ferry tale, Thomas the Tank Engine. Reverend Audry was inspired by his earlier ordeal with son and a life threatening bout of the measles 2 years prior. Rev Audry stayed at his son Christopher’s call, assisting him and providing his every need.

The story goes, while Chris was recovering, Wilbert would tell simple little short stories and nursery rhymes in order to ease his sons discomforts. On of the rhymes went like this…

Early in the Morning Down at the Station all the Engines Standing in a Row. Along Comes the Driver Pulls the Lever, Puff, Puff! Chuff, Chuff Off we GO!

After hearing this diddy many times during his ailment, little Chris began to ask his father questions about the rhyme. Where is the train going, Does it have a name?

To answer these typical youthful queries, Wilbert needed to think quick… Aha – he says, I’ll call the island sodor. It will be located in the Irish Sea between the British Isles and the Isle of Mann. This is how the adventure began.

Many are under the false pretense that Thomas was the first locomotive on the island. That’s not true. Although Thomas was one of the original trains in the early stories, it was Edward who began these tales spun by Rev. Audry. More than likely that’s why Edward is so loved on the Island.

The stories grew larger and more detailed. Additional locomotives where then tossed in the mix. Soon came Thomas, Percy, Lady, Henry, Smudger, James and a slew of others, each with personalities of their own.

1945 brought about the first publication of the now famed children’s books. In 1984 a television series was launched that propelled the little choo-choo even higher.The Books are still in publication, though the original writers, Rev. Wilbert Audry and his son Christopher whom inherited the honor in 1972. Rev Audry passed in 1997, he lived a rich vibrant 86 years.

In 1996 Christopher published his last book before handing over the series to professional children’s book publishers. Wilbert soon passed at the rich age of 86. Chris still enjoys his fathers stories and shares the tales with the rest of the world!

Electronic book readers have been available for quite some time now. The Franklin eBookman is generally considered to have been the first and launched in 1999, over a decade ago. Other readers slowly appeared – the Sony PRS launched in 2006 and the first Amazon Kindle hit the streets in November of 2007.

2009 was however, the year that e-book readers seemed to really catch the public imagination. A great deal of the credit for this must go to Amazon. The Kindle 2.0 launch in February, rapidly followed by the launch of the large format Kindle DX in June created a real buzz around e-book readers and established them as the “must have” gadget of the year. Very rapidly, the Kindle became Amazon’s best selling product. Over the 2009 festive period it became Amazon’s “most gifted” product ever. On Christmas day, Amazon sold more Kindle books than they did hardbacks and paperbacks combined. Both Barnes and Noble and Sony had launched new readers in advance of the 2009 Xmas rush – but concerns over delivery combined with the fact that the Kindle was already so well recognised meant that Amazon’s dominance continued.

There is no shortage of e-book readers to choose from right now. There is a long, and impressive list, of manufacturers who now have their readers on the market, or who are developing them for release in the very near future. Industry analysts are anticipating that 2010 will be a big year for e-book readers and the level of sales is expected to increase.

It is effectively a brand new market sector which didn’t exist, at least not in any meaningful way, until very recently. Apart from the companies who manufacture e-book readers, there are implications for publishers, educational institutions, independent suppliers and of course, the reading public.

The sudden creation of this sector has been very good news for companies like M-Edge, who supply a wide range of accessories for the Kindle, including reading lights, covers, chargers and such. There are many other suppliers of this type of accessory who also stand to profit. Currently, much of the focus is, quite understandably, on the Kindle reader. However, as the market expands and other readers establish themselves there will be further opportunities for the third party accessory suppliers.

The e-book reader market is still nascent. It is growing and developing at an incredible rate. Amazon has been instrumental in the development of the market to date and enjoys a 60% share of the American market as a result. Their dominance will be strongly challenged in 2010, as will Sony’s current second place (with a 35% market share). However, this new market offers plenty of opportunity for companies with the vision and innovative skills to establish themselves at this early stage.

Espalmador is a separate island from Formentera, although it is virtually connected to it at its southern point. It’s owned by some seriously rich folk that live in Barcelona, but they are kind enough to let tourists visit whenever they like. There are no places to stay on the island so this is a day trip destination.

When you decide to make your way to Espalmador from Formentera it is not advisable to cross the water separating the two islands. You will see some people making the passage when the water is shallow, but actually it is very dangerous as there is a strong current and more than one tourist has seem adventure turn into misadventure. You are much better off taking the ferry from La Savina, or even the boat that stops by the Es Trucadors beach at Illetes.

Ferries run from La Savina to Espalmador from 10:15 in the morning to 13:15, and then head back in the afternoon from 16:15 to 17:30. For many people it just isn’t enough time, and they take the trip on multiple days. For day tripper from Ibiza they just hang out on yachts just off the coast of Espalmador, and swim to shore if they are in need of some time on the beach.

The mud baths of Espalmador are renowned for their healing properties, although they are completely unproven from a scientific point of view. To get to the mud baths you just go to Platja de s’Alga and head north, and you soon come across four hectares of mud, glorious mud. There is no need to worry about getting dirty as it all comes off in the ocean.

This is something that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike and it is definitely worth heading up there.

One thing to note is that is a particularly dry year there may be a shortage of mud, so please respect the environment, and if it looks like there is a lack of mud then refrain from damaging what remains.
